New Horizons is my first Animal Crossing game. I didn't think the series was for me. But like every other Switch owner in the Year of Luigi 2020, I wanted something low stress to do, and bam, charming island life sim with cute animal friends comes along and suddenly I have Opinions about a sheep that looks like a hamburger and is dressed like a hot dog (she is the best and will never leave my island).
I came out to these two (and the rest of my FF14 guild Discord) the next week with the bottle comic. We were all chatting during the Game Awards and I dropped the comic in chat, joking that there was another WORLD PREMIERE. (...I'm funny, dammit.)
Comic, 12 Panels Panel 1: The Animal Crossing New Horizons name entry screen, the field reads "Assumption" and has a reminder underneath that this cannot be changed. Caption: As I was making my New Horizons island I made my character name my online handle (I didn’t want my first name to represent me for some reason) Panel 2: Animal Crossing Robin, pre transition. Caption: Weird. (I’m sure that’s fine) Anyway, when I cracked like 4 months later, I was really glad that: Panel 3: Robin, now a girl in new clothes, flourishes in front of a mirror. Caption: I could just go to a mirror and change my everything. Which I did. Immediately. Panel 4: Robin talking with Apollo the eagle villager. And that I wouldn’t have to restart my whole island to keep my villagers from deadnaming me. Apollo speaks "Hey there, Assumption! Always a pleasure!" Robin sweats, thinking "Close one..." Panel 5: Caption: Although, I did have one privately awkward experience. A Discord screen: A Guildie “I’ve got Celeste tonight! Anyone wanna come over?” A Fried: “Oh, me!” AssumptionPrime: "Yeah, sure!" Panel 6: Robin, heading out the door of her house. Panel 7: Robin stops, struck by a realization. Caption: ...Wait. I’m not out to anyone yet. Panel 8: Robin looks back toward the mirror and wardrobe. Panel 9: Friend and Guildie standing on a beach near Celeste, Robin enters, in boymode, nervously masquerading as her pre-transition self, and speaks “Hey! I'm here and normal!” Panel 10: Robin is reading a DIY recipe from Celeste, Guildie speaks “We’re gonna chill for a bit and wish on stars if you want to join!” Panel 11: Robin, sweating, speaks “I… do need stars…” Panel 12: All standing next to each other on the beach wishing on stars. Boymode Robin is panicking internally. Caption: I came out to them like a week later and it was fine.
